50 hurt in clash over cricket in B'baria


More than 50 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over playing cricket at Sohagpur village in Ashuganj upazila yesterday.

Witnesses said the clash that began at 9:00am in the cricket field soon escalated between rival families of Nagarbari and Shikdarbari. Both the sides used sharp weapons during the two-hour clash, leaving more than 50 people injured.

Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rushed to the place and brought the situation under control.

Of the injured, some were rushed to Dhaka while others to the Sadar Hospital and Bhairab Health Complex.

Some 28 suspected trouble mongers were taken into custody. Police were deployed in the village to ward off further clashes.
